Perched above Lake Taupō with panoramic views across the water, this stunning pool project was designed to become the heart of family life and outdoor entertaining

The homeowners wanted a space that felt elegant and effortless, somewhere the children could spend endless summer days swimming while family and friends gathered to enjoy long lunches, evening drinks and the spectacular outlook.

At the centre of the project is a 10m x 4.5m Mayfair fibreglass pool, finished in our striking Karekare Glitter colour. The deep blue interior beautifully reflects the changing sky and lake beyond, creating a seamless connection between the pool and the surrounding landscape.

Built using Mayfair's insulated construction system, the pool features insulated walls, a timber substructure and concrete floor, delivering excellent thermal performance and helping to maximise swimming comfort throughout the season. A Viron Inverter Heat Pump, HALO mineral chlorinator and fully automated pH and lighting control system work together to ensure the pool is as easy to own as it is enjoyable to use.

The surrounding outdoor space has been carefully crafted to complement both the architecture of the home and the breathtaking setting. Large-format Marble Grey porcelain coping and paving create a clean, contemporary finish, while layered planting softens the pool surrounds and frames the view beyond. Frameless glass fencing preserves uninterrupted sightlines from the entertaining area, while powder-coated aluminium fencing provides safety without compromising the open feel of the property.

One of the standout features of the project is the beautifully detailed timber fencing, custom-built by the homeowner. As a builder himself, he brought exceptional craftsmanship to the finishing touches, creating a feature that adds warmth, privacy and character to the pool environment.

The homeowners are perhaps best known through VJ Cooks, one of New Zealand's most popular food bloggers and cookbook authors. With outdoor entertaining playing such an important role in their lifestyle, the pool area has quickly become an extension of the home, a place where recipes are shared, friends gather and family memories are made.

To maintain the clean aesthetic, the pool is fitted with a London Underground hidden cover reel and insulated thermal blanket, while Aquea V-Lock hidden skimmer lids ensure the paving lines remain uninterrupted.

The result is a sophisticated outdoor retreat that feels both luxurious and welcoming.
